Though they have faith in God, why are the lives of many at a standstill? There is misery, unhappiness in love and suffering in every area of their lives. Some even think about dying. The ones who committed suicide because of their problems had, in their majority, faith in God. So, if they had faith in God, why were they overcome by their problems?
Here is the answer: “Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, ‘All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.’ Then Jesus said to him, ‘Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.” Matthew 4.8-10
The devil’s proposal was to offer Jesus the glory of the world, and the condition to receive this was to worship and serve him. The devil was asking the Lord Jesus to stop worshiping God and start worshiping him. Jesus’ answer was: “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve’.”
All those who worship God live by faith, in dependence upon the One they worship. But the fact that a person says he has faith in God does not mean he worships Him. A person may worship nature, a pet, a piece of jewelry, a child, grandchild, husband, wife, one or more gods presented by a religion or anything else, even though they have faith in God. The meaning of the word “god” is “one who is worshipped”.
Therefore, when I worship a person, an object or anything else, I am making that my god. What I worship is what I serve. This is why many have been so unsuccessful. Jesus said to the devil: “you shall worship God, and Him only you shall serve.”
Who or what do you worship? Surely the answer is shown in your life.
