… for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you. Acts 17.23
When someone worships God without knowing Him, their worship comes down to religious ceremonies and rituals. It is empty, cold and distant from the true faith that brings us closer to the Most High, because it is full of formalities and does not have the genuine spirit of worship. This is what happened with the Greeks and the Jews, who wore especial garments, but offered blemished animals to God, which was evidence of their spiritual decadence.
Many churches confuse true worship with an emotion brought on by songs and beautiful sounds produced by musical instruments. They don’t understand the words of the Lord Jesus, who said that God is Spirit! Only those who are born of Him have the essence of true worship, because they have His nature, His character. They have surrendered their body, soul and spirit to the Eternal, and live in perfect harmony with the Creator, submitting themselves to His will. The Greeks raised an altar to a God they did not know, and the same is true for many Christians.
