An offense in the church

“Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!”

Matthew‬ ‭18:7‬

Inasmuch as a scandal may affect a church (a group of non-converted and converted people), it will never affect the Church (those who are born of God).

Notice the two “woes” in the verse above. According to the Lord Jesus, those truly affected by an offense are:

(1) The world – which feels disappointed in the church because it is supposed to set a good example and offer salvation.

(2) The one by whom the offense comes – for that person will bear the guilt of having led many to hell.

He who fears God and has zeal for his salvation, as well as the salvation of others, will strive to NEVER cause offense.
