Take a look at what the Lord Jesus said to His disciples: Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Matthew 6.25
Food is important to nourish our life, but the Holy Spirit is essential. Clothes are important for our body, but the Holy Spirit is essential. It is one thing to be alive and another to have life. The Holy Spirit brings life to those who are alive. Clothes cover the body protecting it from the cold, heat, wind, but they cannot protect you from evil. Therefore, what good is having a beautiful body and dressing well, when you are unprotected because you don’t have the Spirit of the Most High as a Resident of this body?
When the Lord Jesus noticed the concern people had in meeting their physical needs (which are not less important), He explained what is really essential to mankind by saying: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6.33
This kingdom is within us and within all who were possessed by the Holy Spirit, and He wants to be within you as well. If you did what you did to have material possessions, what would you be capable of doing to have the Holy Spirit?
Nothing in this life, material or spiritual, can be achieved without sacrifice. An example is the parable of the hidden treasure in the field. The man that found the treasure had many possessions, and they didn’t just “fall out of the sky” into his hands. He had to sacrifice to have them. But when he found The Treasure, he understood that to have “That Treasure”, which symbolizes the Holy Spirit, he would have to surrender everything he achieved through sacrifice. Hence, sacrificing even more.
