“And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?” Luke 10.25-26
The interpreter’s interpretation was perfect. This is why the Lord Jesus answered:
“You have answered rightly; do this and you will live? Luke 10.28
We must remember that it’s one thing to know, but it’s another to do.
The difference is in doing, practicing and obeying.
There are three groups of people:
– Those who interpret the Word the wrong way:
Nicodemus did not understand when the Lord Jesus said that to see the Kingdom of God it was necessary to be born again.
– Those who interpret correctly, but do not obey:
The rich young man understood that to inherit eternal life he would have to give up everything he owned and conquer the treasure in Heaven. He understood, but did not obey, and went away sorrowful.
– And those who, in addition to interpreting correctly, also obey:
Zacchaeus decided to give half of his goods to the poor and restore fourfold to anyone he cheated.
He was a thief who heard the Word, interpreted it correctly and obeyed. At that exact moment there was salvation.
These are the very few who will live!
