Soon after the Lord Jesus said: Whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it, a rich man asked Him… what shall I do to inherit eternal life? Luke 18.17,18
There must have been a big hole inside this man. In spite of all his wealth, his life had no meaning. Then the word of the Lord Jesus came to him: Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness… in other words, keep the commandments. The young man said that he had done all that, and still there was something missing.
Many are in the exact same situation. They may not be rich, but they have heard the Word of God, have grown up in the church, and yet something is missing.
The Lord Jesus loved that young man and told him: “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.” There was no point in saying anything else to this man, just like many people today who’ve have already heard all they need to hear.
The Lord Jesus told the man to sacrifice. No more words, he had to act. He called him to decision. And yet, in this case, fear won out and the revelation was thrown away. He must not have expected anything so powerful—with such impact. The problem is that he was content with talking about ideas, like many believers today. They live an honest life, attend church, but their lives are a picture of failure… and a voice inside their head keeps asking: What can I do?
The rich young man went away sad because he had a great many possessions, and missed out on the opportunity to be saved and to possess many times more than what he would have sacrificed. This is what the Lord Jesus said to His disciples who were worried about how they had left everything:
And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wifeor children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. Matthew 19.29
The 11th is a day for those who want to make a decision.
Let’s not waste time. Either God exists or He doesn’t!
When it comes to sacrifice, we don’t have time to argue about it.
Those who receive the Prophecy and obey, receive the revelation of God.
