Everyone has the patience to sow and wait for the time to harvest; patience to wait for their salary at the end of the month; patience to wait for their child to be born; patience to finish school; this is, patience for everything that requires patience. However, when it comes to the Promises of God, many remain anxious while waiting.
People with an emotional faith are not able to remain patient when facing challenges while waiting for the right moment.
Emotional faith is blind. It removes the person from reality and drives him to listen to the voice of the heart. Those who live by an emotional faith pay attention to what they see. Their decisions are made in the heart. Their choices are made based on emotions, and according to their feelings. Such people are like an innocent child; foolish and easily deceived. They simply “follow the crowd…” A piece of candy, chocolate, rattle, anything colorful will get their attention and make them accept it in their heart.
This kind of behavioral faith has thrown its victims into the lion’s lair of commerce, addiction, and all the attractive vile things of this world. It turns them into compulsive consumers that buy unnecessary things, and rack up extreme levels of debt for no reason. Emotional faith is more deadly than pesticide. It is the leading cause of suicide.
For this reason, the Holy Spirit warns:
…Do not look at the things that which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4.18
Those who live by what they see, make choices based on their heart and not their reason. This does not please God and, worst of all, they will never be set free.
Those who live by faith in His Word please God. This has nothing to do with a religious life. To walk by faith is to walk according to the Words spoken by the mouth of God and written in the Holy Bible. These are true and eternal. How can people that live based on emotions look to the things that are not seen? Impossible! To look at the things that are not seen, it is necessary to be spiritual. You must walk in the spirit. This is, walk by rational faith.
Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise. Hebrews 10.35-36
There’s no use trying to be patient when you have not done the will of God yet. There’s no use waiting for the promise while keeping anger in your heart towards your husband. Or wait for the promise, and look at everyone with bad eyes. The promise is only fulfilled after the person does the will of God.
Therefore, to know what your next step should be, use reason and answer: regarding what you want, have you done the will of God? If you do not know what the will of God is, this is where you should start. Ask Him and meditate on the Bible to learn what you need to obey. If you already know, but have not done it yet, then do it. If you already know and have done the will of God, then what you need now is patience to obtain the promise.
