“Then it happened, as He was coming near Jericho, that a certain blind man sat by the road begging. And hearing a multitude passing by, he asked what it meant. So they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. And he cried out, saying, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Then those who went before warned him that he should be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be brought to Him. And when he had come near, He asked him, saying, “What do you want Me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, that I may receive my sight.” Then Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight, and followed Him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.’
Luke 18:35-43″
Upon reading this passage, it is possible to understand why many people, including servants of God, do not complete their journey, do not keep the faith and do not finish what they started with God.
The answer is very clear: these people are expecting and seeking honour recognition and supernatural things that can only be found in God, from men. Truly, those who expect more from men than what they can offer will only be disappointed by them.
The problem is that, in their restlessness for recognition, they end up serving man and not God. They create great expectations and when they do not get the response that they long for, they become discouraged, see things maliciously, rebel and abandon the faith.
This is why I say that the blind man of Jericho saw more than many people could see. From men, he could only wait on and beg for spare change, since it was the most they could give him. The blind man did not expect much from them and did not try to extract what they could not give.
However, when he found out that it was the Lord JESUS who was passing by at that moment, he did not beg for spare change but instead, asked for a MIRACLE. He asked for something supernatural, to the point of insisting with his cries out, for he knew that he could expect much more from Jesus. As expected, that was what happened: our Lord stopped and answered him!
Friend, if you do not want to be amongst the unhappiest of people, stop trying to extract from men what can only be found in GOD!
God bless you all exceedingly.
